Church life in Memphis

Memphis is famous for its African American church culture and its role in the civil rights movement — Mason Temple Church of God in Christ is where Dr. King delivered his 'I've Been to the Mountaintop' speech. The city has one of the highest concentrations of COGIC churches in the country (the denomination's headquarters is in Memphis), alongside Southern Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic communities.
